Our Philosophy
Richly stimulating,
innovative and caring
Ku-Ring-Gai Kindergarten is a richly stimulating, inclusive and caring environment which fosters children’s natural curiosity to develop a love of learning.
We are committed to upholding children’s rights by providing them with a safe and supportive environment. We believe in a socially just program which aims to maximise opportunities for all children. As early childhood educators we promote a variety of teaching strategies to foster positive responses in children and to support all children. We value having a democratic environment which promotes children’s independence and sense of agency. We encourage children to act as citizens of their environment and embed practices that will contribute to a sustainable future.
We acknowledge that each child is a strong and capable learner and can acquire knowledge through their inherent curiosity and creativity. Our programs and environment draw from early childhood pedagogies and theorists, implementing elements of Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders perspectives and the Early Years Learning Framework. A culture of critical thinking by our educators and children supports every aspect of our day.
Committed to your Child
At Ku-Ring-Gai Kindergarten we provide learning opportunities that build upon each child’s strengths, interests and ideas, while challenging them to explore their potential. A strong focus is placed on developing social, emotional and mental wellbeing of the child. Each child is valued as an essential part of our community and therefore develop a strong sense of belonging.
We provide a safe space that that acts as an extension of the child’s home environment. Ku-Ring-Gai Kindergarten is a place where each child feels valued, accepted and respected and is encouraged to reach their own individual potential.
Trusting and Respectful Partnerships
Ku-Ring-Gai Kindergarten fosters trusting and respectful partnerships with families. We work in collaboration to create a smooth transition from their home to our service and then to school. Over many years our service has developed close ties within our community including with the local catchment school, which gives our children an added sense of being part of a larger community.
We strive to develop relationships based on mutual understandings, respect, and communication to continually support children. We work in partnership with a variety of allied health professionals to support the families and educators at our service.
Building Skills for Life
Educators recognise that diversity contributes to the richness of our society. We not only hold the cultures of our families in high esteem, but also the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. We continue to expand our knowledge and resources to better meet the needs of diverse cultures.
It is our belief that when our families, children, educators and community intertwine, it creates the unmistakable essence that is unique to our Ku-Ring-Gai Kindergarten Family.
Exceeding the National Quality Standard
The National Quality Standard (NQS) is a key aspect of the National Quality Framework (NQF) and sets a high, national benchmark for early childhood education and care, and outside school hours care services in Australia.
It gives services and families a better understanding of a quality service, helping families to make informed decisions about the services providing education and care to their child. The NQS brings together the 7 key quality areas that are important to outcomes for children and based on the ratings done by ACECQA, we’re exceeding the National Quality Standard.
- Educational program and practice
- Children’s health and safety
- Physical environment
- Staffing arrangements
- Relationships with children
- Collaborative partnerships with families and communities
- Leadership and service management
Services are assessed and rated by ACECQA, their regulatory authority against the NQS, and given a rating for each of the 7 quality areas and an overall rating based on these results.
Find out more about the assessment and rating process and quality ratings. Quality ratings of assessed services are published on the national registers and on the Starting Blocks website. Source: ACECQA
